The beginnings of Trainee v Trained

Hello again...long time no see, type or read!!
So what has been happening with Ezme over the last month and a half. Well i've had another retightening that can u believe it had to be broken up into 2 sesssions because it was taking too long. 9hrs in total and then she booked the next session for 6 weeks time instead of 4, making the front where the slippage is worst have to wait 8 weeks till its done. This whole hair saga is beginning to be the bain of my life. I'm starting to think that i need a second opinion. I don't like to think that i'm doubting my Sabs but f**k it i really am. I'm trying to take that she is still a trainee into consideration and i do have very soft hair, maybe she has given me the wrong pattern or maybe............... I'm just clutching at staws right now but i am sure that the retightening sessions are meant to take less time not to increase by each visit. I wonder if she's doing it like that because she is strapped for cash mmmmmmmmmmm I wonder.
Well maybe i'll have to go back to the original person i wanted to do my locks and that is Marie from Cammalocks. I think what i'm gonna do is book a retightening session or just maybe a consultation with her and see what she has to say about the matter, espeacailly as she has had years of expperiance. Like i said i don't like to doubt my loctician but something cannot be right here. What to you lot out there think??? I would post some pics of my locs but parts of it are starting to look like i'm wearing an afro!!! And i f i can't stand to look at it i don't see why you would!

Oh you poor thing! Soft hair, Trainee, nope something aint right girl, longer and longer to retighten? As i was reading your post I thought i had better tell you to try and see Marie!
You've given the trainee the benefit of the doubt and now it it's costing you in more ways than am sure your care to admit to. It is time to cut your losses and break free.

I think you are right about the money situation with your consultant.

You have to set limits in the beginning. For instance, when I got my initial consultation I asked "what is the longest time it would ever take to tighten my hair?" She responded that it would take between 4-6 hours. I then followed up with "ok, so it would never cost me more than $150.00 ($25.00/hour x 6 hours) to have my hair tightened?" She told me that was correct. I take $150 with me to each tightening session and if it takes her 4 hours, I give her $100. If it takes her 8 hours, as it has on 1 occasion, I give her $150. She now completes it between 5-6 hours. I never told her that I was also a licensed cosmetologist like herself. I didn't know her and I know the financial games that some stylist play. If was only after I colored my hair, and she was fussing, that I told her I was licensed.

I would say that your options now are, if you really like your current consultant, to be up front with her and let her know that you are considering taking you business elsewhere due to the financial concerns - by the way, if your hair is slipping as bad as you have indicated, it doesn't make sense to me that she would make you wait so long in between tightenings. I'm willing to be that she will put some pep in her step when tightening your hair. I know she would rater have some of your money as opposed to none. The other option is to find someone else and it sounds like you may have already done that.

On a last note....a little trick of the trade that drives us cosmetologist crazy is to look at your watch often. This implies 2 things: (1) you are paying attention, even though you may be talking and BS-ing with the consultant/stylist, to the time spent on your head and (2) you have some place else you need to be....implying stop BS-ing and get my hair done.

Good luck

Forgive my typos "I am willing to BET..." and "I know she would RATHER have some..."

I always proofread but never seem to catch the mistakes until after I submit the comment. I think some of my letters gets lost in transmission...LOL

Wow, that's too long for a retightening session. I even had to change consultants which my original was a trainee. You have to do what's right for you and what your gut is telling you. I would seek a consultation with a certified consultant and see what they say. Then make a decision to either have a certified consultant do your next retightening or........well you'll know what to do. Best of luck to you, and thanks for coming by to my blog.

Sorry to hear that it is taking you so long for retightens. Mine has never taken more than 1 hour and I have over 400 locks. When I had my consultation I asked how long would it take and she told me no more than 1 1/2 hours unless I don't follow instructions.

I have had 3 retightens and it has never been more than 1 hour all 3 times. My cost is very affordable, my consultant only charges 25 dollars an hour. I tip her all the time, b/c she is true to her word.

I would definatley seek a certified consultant it should not feel like yo are getting an installation everytime you get a retight.
