Blindness

You know what on Tuesday i decided to take my son to the Natural History and Science Museums and i saw around 3 women with what appears to look like sisterlocks. Then today i decided since its not overly sunny or humid to take my son to the park and lo and behold there was yet another woman with sisterlocks and all of these woman appeared to be in the newbie stage. Then i had to fly to the shops and there was a woman at the bus stop... yes you guessed it sisterlocks and she said she has had them for the last 6 years. I wish my camera phone was working cos them locks were delicious, luscious, thick and devine. The weird thing is i have passed both women (park and bus stop) on numerous occasions and have never taken any notice on the hairstyles they were rocking .... maybe they were being drowned out by the weave parade!! But isn't that strange? ... Here i am thinking that i am getting something relatively new to the U.K and bwoy here i am.... late! Now i don't know what's happening am i suddenly becoming aware of people with locks....Yes. I think that is what having a new hairstyle/lifestyle does, suddenly the blinkers are off and your noticing everything in everybody. Weird!

The Last Day

As you can see i love crazy colours...blonde at the front and red at the back!!!

Now tomorrow is D- Day and i can't wait. I've washed my hair, done another circle of all the blogs just to make sure i'm doing the right thing....and yes i am.

I am kinda nervous because i do have soft hair and alot of it is quite straight. I just hope that it thickens up and doesn't break

The Mcanns

Now i'm coming of the subject for a minute but i want to ask you the joe public something. Now i know that it must be devasting for these parents to lose their child. A whole year has passed and we don't know if the child is dead or alive HOWEVER don't you feel that there needs to be some sort of prosecution to these parents. All the mothers.... well actually fathers...nah ...all the people with common sense would u really leave your 3year old with a set of twins at 2yrs of age alone in a strange country, strange hotel room and tek yourself and your partner out to dinner??? I can hear the cry HELL NO!! Now personally i feel that they should be charged for neglect. If they were doing their job as responsible parents that child would be safe now.
More to the point if it was a family on a low wage income or on benefits or an ethnic minority we all know not only would they not be getting as much supportive press attention, backing from millionaires and countless amount of media time but there arses would be villified and on remand all now for some sort of child neglect. Ultimately they have paid a dear price for there lack of foresight and no prison sentence would ever feel satisfactory in their eyes but come on..something needs to be done.

5 days to go!!

I have 5 days to go and i cannot contain myself. I used to read everybodies blog and hear the excitement bouncing of the page, and i will be honest, the words 'extra' and ' get a grip of yourself' did slip out of my mouth a few times, but now i'm here feeling the same way you all did...so....... I'm Sorry!! I now know what all the excitement was all about...(and it aint the money i'm about to spend!!). Thanks for the comment of encouragement Shoshanna it was well needed.

Anxious or Nervous

Another short look

As the time is steadily approaching i am beginnig to feel the nerves. This is not the first time i have attempted to put locks in my head and i am hoping its the last. Back in the mid - late nineties i tried the traditional locks and even took myself to a locticians shop to have them done.

I had to wash it and leave it for 2 days before the appointment and then they palmed rolled the hair and saturated it in oil. Now, my hair loves oil, it goes crazy just at the whisper of the word because it can go all soft, curly and unravel from any style you tried to put it in, so that was £50 down the drain, but did i learn NO, i went back and tried again and .....well you guessed it!!. My next trick was just to leave it and let it lock and then split the hair so i'll have the individual locks. Now i have had the beautiful experiance of giving birth, enduring a drug free labour in my home, i have had an ectopic pregnancy and my fallopian tube rupture inside of me and NOTHING and i mean N.O.T.H.I.N.G compared to the pain of trying to split locks, so out came the clippers and i shaved that mess off. So i am concerned that it wont work eventhough i know it will, I'm just anxious or nervous.

I've also been combing my hair more and feeling its texture as i know once them locks are in those days will be done!! Its not like i've ever enjoyed playing in my hair its just that i know that its something i won't be able to do AGAIN!

However saying all of that i still cannot wait till next friday (nor can Trevor, i think i'm starting to get on his nerves " mi cyan wait fi friday and dem dyam brudderlocs trus mi!!").

Conception of Sisterlocks

Hi You

Welcome to my blog.

This is my first time of doing this madness so pls be patient with me. Anyway, i became inspired to do this when i decided to research the words 'dreads' and 'sisterlocks' as i needed a change from the mundane hairstyle that i have gotten used to.

My hair has been natural for the past 12 years and i have always worn it short..DAMN it looked good but now its time for a change...well i think so!!!!

Since giving birth to my son i feel that i now need to look more yummy rather than a street hustler!!. I'm not saying that short hair on a woman makes you look like a haggler but it did on me sometimes.... (well more like a crack head, and i've got the pics to prove it).
Bwoy i knew i had a big forehead but this photo caught all its glory (i'm sure a likkle length cant be too bad can it????)

Its time for the yummy mummy stage of my life.

My next move after the short hair was the WEAVE.
Now, i'm a weave virgin and only had it put it for my sons' naming ceremony and trust me i pulled that bitch out the next day. Ladies, how do you do it, summer, winter, spring, autumn i see these sisters rocking these big ol tings on their head, some look good but many don't... tracks on show, thred dangling down and all dat plus..... WE all know they aint real...and i'm too real to be so fake, ( or maybe i'm just jealous that they itch the hell outta my scalp, make me sweat like i'm in J.A and are too damn tight...who needs a face lift....get a weave)

It covered up that piece of forehead though....right?

Next came the twists, now i put these babies in myself as i am of creative mind i am of creative hands. I am the black girl who the girls came too every week to get their hair did, whether it be extensions, weaves, perm (relaxed or curly) ,trim etc. So when i cant be bothered to find someone to do it i do it for myself. These took 2 days to do in between nappy changes, feeding, times, bath times, putting him to sleep time and my time.

People thought it looked good. What do u reckon??

Any ho i opted for the sisterlock option and have gone for the 1st consultation. Sabrina was really great, she sat me down as soon as i walked in , showed me the sisterlock video...
... 'WORD TO THE WISE' Make sure you do your research before you have to watch that video! Look at images of sisterlocks on all sites that you can find... The video is from the early 90's and the styles and the people representing the styles are all of the more mature genre, if you are young and trendy then this vid can really put you off...it's just out of date. Before i blinked my eye good she was finished, 8 sample locks.
A sample loc is kinda fine...note to self, it will thicken.......patience girl........PATIENCE!!
Wow it went real quick and so we made our lock installation date for 4 weeks from there. Roll on 25/26 July. Did i mention that Sabrina is a trainee consultant, i tried to find a certified consultant but half of them aint doing it no more and the other half have queues as long as my body length so i opted for what turned out to be the cheaper verson, £350 certified, £250 trainee and as my hair length varies between 4"- 6" its £275. After the first wash about 4 sample locks disappered from my hair.... ( so we wont be using that pattern will we!!) I've still got a couple of weeks to go and i look forward to popping up from time to time and sharing my progress with you. We all know what dreads are but if u wanna know what the beauty in sisterlocks are check out there official site and research it from there. U won't be disappointed.
